Careers at Slipway

Help 400 boatyards run on software instead of binders.

We're 28 people — some in Portland, Maine, the rest scattered across US time zones — making scheduling and billing tools for working waterfronts. Every role below says what you'd actually do all day. No legal spec dumps, no "rockstar" anything.

How hiring works here

What does the hiring process look like?

Every role follows the exact steps listed on its page — usually an intro call, one real conversation about your work, and a paid exercise drawn from our actual backlog. No whiteboard puzzles, no six-round gauntlets. Start to offer typically takes two to three weeks.

What's the remote policy, honestly?

Each role is labeled with how it really works: fully remote roles can be anywhere in US time zones, hybrid roles are in the Portland office two or three days a week, and on-site roles are on-site because the work genuinely needs it. We don't relabel roles after you join.

What happens in the interviews?

Conversations, not exams. We ask about real things you've shipped or handled, and you can ask us anything — salary, on-call, why the last person left. Anything take-home is time-boxed and paid at a fair rate.

Are the salary ranges real?

Yes. The range on the page is the range we offer inside, based on experience. We won't lowball under it, and everyone in the same role sits inside the same band.

No role fits me. Should I email anyway?

If what we're building excites you, yes. New roles post to this page first, and we keep a short list of people we liked — several of us got hired exactly that way.
